A couple of days ago Porcini in Ritz Carlton Doha launched there Aperitivo Lungo.

Everyday from 6pm – 8pm. The idea behind aperitivo, besides from the obvious,  used for the social interaction among friends or colleagues, it is believed to stimulate the appetite and promote digestion. That is why apperitivo is enjoyed immediately before dinner. The word apperitivo comes from the Latin word aperire which translates to ‘oppening’ in this case to opens once hunger. (By the way, we say the same in Greek ‘ Να σου ανοιξει την ορεξη’)This tradition goes back to the 19th century. It started in Torino. Meeting for aperitivo became very popular among the city aristocracy, politicians, and intellectuals who regularly visited the cafe of Antonio Benedetto Carpano, because he invented a delicious new drink, Vermouth. Soon this glamorous activity reached other cities like Milan, Rome, and Florence. In 1990’s in Milan there were grand buffets ( an immediate hit). That is when aperitivo was renamed to aperitivo lungo. The beginning of a long night out.

In Porcini at the Ritz Carlton Doha, you have an amazing ambiance that puts you in the mood with a fantastic singer and pianist.  It is a great deal because when you go out for aperitivo you only pay for the drinks, the food is complimentary.

Drinks don’t necessarily have to be alcoholic. People can enjoy non-alcoholic cocktails and specialty drinks, such as Sanbitter in red color and fresh citrus flavor.
